St Patrick’s Day Tournament Recap

St Patrick’s Day Invitational 2017 Baseball Tournament Recap

St Patrick’s Day weekend in Rio Rancho, New Mexico (Albuquerque) makes for the perfect setting for spring baseball in the southwest US. This tournament weekend kicks off the baseball season here in Albuquerque. This year (2017), the weather was amazing and we were blessed with two beautiful sunny days.

This was the 2017 EBC’s 9u first time playing together as a team in not only a tournament but in any game at all! We started our weekend on Saturday morning with high hopes of winning the tournament. We had been training since February and it was time to test our skills on the field!

St-Paddys

Day One (Saturday)

vs Jaguars – Pool

The Eclipse team started out strong shutting down our first opponent, the Valencia Jaguars 18 to 10. We saw some big hits from the entire EBC line up and some solid pitching from Remington Smith, Uriel Castro, and Aidan Corona. The game was closed out with Nivek Corona on the mound.

vs ABA – Pool

Our second match up was a battle against ABA that ended with a tough loss for Eclipse. EBC started out with Owen Pagano on the mound who shutout the top of the order in the first inning.  EBC also had the bats working in the first inning putting up 5 runs. The second inning ABA battled back and put up several runs of their own. Judea Moralez pitched in the 3rd inning for Eclipse, however his 2 Ks weren’t enough to contain ABA who put up several more runs. The game was again closed out with Nivek Corona on the mound. This was a hard fought battle by both teams and ultimately a tough loss for Eclipse 14-6.

We finished our first day of baseball and pool play 1 and 1. We placed 2nd in the B pool and earned a spot in the top bracket for Sunday!

Day Two (Sunday)

vs Yard Dawgs – Bracket

After a good night’s sleep the Eclipse boys showed up on Sunday refreshed and ready to play what would end up being their toughest game as a team to date. Both teams had great pitching and some really good hits. Eclipse pitched both Uriel Castro and Remington Smith. After several innings of back and forth scoring the Yard Dawgs managed to defeat Eclipse with home team advantage. The game ended in another tough fought loss for Eclipse 11-8.

Results

Overall we finished the weekend 1-2, placing 5th out of 10 teams entered in the 9u division. A great first weekend of baseball for our Eclipse boys! We are already looking forward to our next tournament in May, Cinco De Mayo!
